Yeshivah Ohr Yisrael
Welcome to the "Yeshiva Ohr yisrael" website. The only yeshiva for Israelis Ba'alei Teshuva in the United States for the last 28 years. Israelis who come to us as secularists who are growing stronger, and becoming Bnei Torah.
About The Yeshivah
Yeshivat “Ohr Israel” is one of the only in the United States that functions as an Israeli, Baal Teshuva Yeshiva. The Yeshiva is a place for Israelis in the United States who wish to go in the path of Hashem.
The Yeshiva is designed primarily for the benefit of the students in a unique approach. When one arrives, without any or very little knowledge of the Torah and the Mitzvos, experienced groups of Rabbis stand personally by his side to assist him. The students learn with a Chavruta followed by a private and personal ‘small group’ lecture. The Rabbeim perceive the level of the student, and therefore are able to assist him with further clarifications, according to his own level. As a result, they are able to follow up on the growth and the improvement of the student continuously.
The morning Seder is based on the Limud of the Gemara Rashi and Tosfos, in different levels, from the beginner stage to the advanced learnings of Gemara and Rishonim (Rif, Rosh, Ramban etc.), while some engross with the Halacha and Shulchan Aruch. The afternoon Seder includes the Limud of Chumash, Gemara, and Halacha in Chavruta and a lecture form, while the evening Seder gives flexibility for each individual to thrive in any subject desired.
The Yeshiva consists of Baal Teshuva students who discovered “the light”, without any previous knowledge of Torah. In addition, it also involves observant students who come to re-strengthen in the Limud Ha Torah and Avodat Hashem.
The Yeshiva takes care of all the needs of the students, as well as food, sleep, and personal supervision. It provides all basic necessities such as clothing, administration, showers, and much more, without any financial requirements.
The steadiness and stability of the punctual Tefilot and the Limud, and the infinite giving and caring to all the essentials the students need are the secret ingredients of the Yeshiva’s success.
Lastly, the Yeshiva is distant from any central industrial locations, therefore giving comfort and coziness to all the students.
Shammai used to say: make your [study of the] Torah a fixed practice; speak little, but do much; and receive all men with a pleasant countenance.
Pirkei Avot 1:15
One who does teshuvah is considered as if he went to Jerusalem, rebuilt the Temple, erected the altar, and offered all the sacrifices ordained by the Torah. [For the Psalm says], 'The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
